About me

Jayne Barton

Understanding that early intervention is key to improving outcomes for children, I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work as a play therapist.  I have worked for charities, schools and outreach associations providing support for children and young people.  My experience includes working with children with physical disabilities and additional needs, including autism and ADHD.   I believe in the power play therapy has to enable children to connect with their emotions in order to find strength within themselves to reach their fullest potential.

I work within Somerset and BANES areas providing play therapy services to schools, alternative provision services and directly with families.  I have acted as volunteer counsellor for the leading mental health charity Place2Be providing one to one counselling in schools and worked with children who have a range of difficult life experiences such as family breakdown, bereavement, domestic violence or psychological difficulties such as developmental trauma or insecure attachment.  My work is influenced by Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) and I use a trauma informed approach.  I am also trained in CATT (Children's Accelerated Trauma Technique) a treatment plan used to help children process traumatic memories.  CATT is developed in line with UK NICE guidance (2018) and World Health Organisation guidelines (2013).  I hold a Certificate in Post-Adoption Therapy with PIP Solutions enabling me to work with children who require therapy for difficulties relating to adoption, note this work can only be provided through an adoption support agency.

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Play Therapy (PgDip) awarded by Academy of Play and Child Psychotherapy/Play Therapy UK (Leeds Beckett University) and I am a member of British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).  To fulfil registration requirements I am required to have 1.5 hours of clinical supervision each month and to complete at least 30 hours of continuing professional development per year.

My BACP registration status can be found on the BACP website www.bacp.co.uk
